Music in St. Louis!
Music and choir is very much part of the St. Louis tradition. Every year, various concerts, performances and religious celebrations are held here in St. Louis Secondary School where the school choir is an essential and invigorating part of these celebrations.
Our current choir in St. Louis Secondary School is made up of students from first to sixth year. Each student volunteers their time for one lunch time a week. Performances include community events in the Phoenix centre, at the school open night and our annual Carol’s by Candlelight Carol Service. This choir studies a variety of genres including a repertoire of pop, classical, Irish, religious and musical theatre to name just a few.
All first- year students participate in choral singing as part of their main curriculum timetable. This continues for students who are taking music as part of their Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate. All first year students, their Peer Ministers along with girls in the fifth year music class all enhance our beautiful Taize liturgy in December. It is a very special time for the school community and it gives everybody a chance to take some time out and reflect at this very busy time.
We are always looking for new members in our school choir so please feel free to come along and join in on Monday at Lunch time.
St Louis School Band
In May of 2018, a number of students initiated the St. Louis School Band. This was a concert band made up of woodwind, brass and percussion players. We are hoping to grow this band in this academic year and we are inviting students who play all orchestral instrument to come join us on a Tuesday in the music room in the Old Primary School at lunch time. We look forward to the year ahead and what this may bring.
