St. Louis Sports!!!

In St. Louis we know that education happens outside the classroom as well as inside. We offer an exciting, extensive range of extra-curricular activities designed to provide something for everybody.  In addition to timetabled PE classes, students have the opportunity to represent the school in a wide variety of extracurricular sporting activities.  Teams and individuals are entered at county, provincial and national level in the following areas:

  • U14, U16 and U20 Ladies Gaelic Football
  • 1st Year, 2nd Year, U16 & Senior Basketball
  • Cross Country and Track and field Athletics
  • Triathlon
  • Camogie
  • Swimming
  • Horse-riding
  • Golf

Ladies Gaelic Football

Gaelic football has a very strong tradition in St. Louis and this is testament to the fact that we attract students from traditionally strong football counties such Monaghan, Cavan, Meath and Louth.  We are no strangers to success and our school has picked up numerous Ulster titles in all age groups over the past decade.

Our students hold an excellent record when it comes to All-Star success, with St. Louis being represented on All-Star teams since 2011.  Our first Stars chosen at the inaugural awards were Laura McEnaney and Barbara Ward.  Barbara picked up her second in 2012 along with Ciara McDermot.  Lauren Jones & Holly Lynch also picked up back to back All-Stars in 2014 and 2015 and Eva Woods in 2016.

Transition year students also complete the TY Coaching Award facilitated by Monaghan GAA.  They help co-ordinate 1st year training sessions in conjunction with their teachers and run an internal lunchtime league.  They will also be working in collaboration with Monaghan County Board and assist coaching in local primary schools.

Basketball is very well represented by St. Louis students and our girls compete in all age groups in the North East regional competition with many our students being selected for the regional squads.

Students compete in cross country competitions at county and provincial level with many students qualifying for All-Ireland.  We also take part in the Ulster Track and Field events which can progress to qualification for the national competitions.

Triathlon is a fast growing sport and all students are given the opportunity to compete in the Monaghan Schools Triathlon which involves completing a 250m indoor swim, 10km cycle and 2.5 km run

Camogie is growing in our school and we are developing the sport through participation in blitz and skill days organized by the regional development officer for the Cavan / Monaghan area.
